Quantum GIS: Overview

Welcome

This online tutorial is an accompaniment to our Introduction to QGIS workshops. Gaining proficiency in GIS can take considerable study and instruction, so this tutorial is limited in scope. It gives a brief introduction to what GIS is and what it can do, some examples of its use in research, a basic overview of spatial data types, an exercise in loading and displaying data (see Tutorial: Making a Map), and ideas for learning more.
