On-campus Ethernet connections

PennNet wall outlets on campus provide high-speed Ethernet connections to PennNet and the Internet. In addition to an activated Penn Libraries offers several wall outlets throughout its locations. 

Connecting a Laptop Computer to a Library PennNet wall outlet:

It may be necessary to configure your laptop properly to connect to the Penn Network and the internet using your laptop. Your settings may have to be changed before you can use the Ethernet ports at the Library. Please see the Desktop Computing Recommendations for Penn, provided by ISC.

Warning: If you need to make changes, you may overwrite your current laptop configuration. This may be a problem if you use your computer to connect to an Ethernet outlet in a University office or residence. Please contact your Support Provider before making any changes.

Windows 7 Setup Instructions

Using an ethernet cable (RJ45), plug one end into your laptop's ethernet port, and then plug the other end into the Library's PennNet wall plate port. Wait 20 seconds for your laptop to recognize the port and obtain an IP address. After approximately 20 seconds, you may launch your desired browser and use the University's Internet system. If after waiting and establishing a connection, you are unable to access the Internet, reboot your computer with the ethernet cable plugged in, and try again.

Macintosh Setup Instructions

To test your wired connection, start your Web browser, enter http://www.library.upenn.edu/in the browser's location field, and press Return.
