Dr. Ana Caetano
Centre for Immunobiology and Regenerative Medicine, Queen Mary University of London
"Redefining Mucosal Inflammation with Spatial Genomics"
Ana obtained her PhD at King’s College London supervised by Professor Paul Sharpe. This work revealed novel disease-associated cell phenotypes, and she was awarded the Sir Wilfred Fish Research Prize by the British Society of Periodontology and the King’s Outstanding Thesis Prize. She continued her work on oral barrier molecular and cellular mechanisms as a Clinical Research Fellow at King’s funded by the NIHR. In 2020, she was awarded a Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship to work with Dr Hironobu Fujiwara at the RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research in Kobe. She joined the Centre for Immunobiology and Regenerative Medicine at Queen Mary University of London in 2023 to start her own lab. Her group studies the nervous system of the oral mucosa to understand how its development, organization and function modulate health and disease mechanisms. Her research team uses a wide range of experimental strategies, including in vivo disease models, molecular and genetic manipulations, and computational modelling. |
