Dr. Hakan Amasya

Assistant Professor at Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Dentomaxillofacial Radiology

"Cervical vertebral maturation assessment on lateral cephalometric radiographs using artificial intelligence: comparison of machine learning classifier models"

Hakan Amasya graduated from Ege University Faculty of Dentistry in 2013. He completed his specialty training in Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology at Süleyman Demirel University, Faculty of Dentistry in 2019. In late 2019, he started working at Tekirdağ Çorlu Oral and Dental Health Center as Oral, Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology Specialist and had been there for about a year. In 2020, he started working as an assistant professor at Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Faculty of Dentistry and his position is still ongoing. Also, he is currently assigned as vice dean, deputy chief physician and head of the department. Hakan Amasya, who studied radiographic bone age assessment with machine learning in his specialty thesis, currently has research on subjects such as computer-aided diagnosis and additive manufacturing.

Dr. Zeeshan Ahmed

Assistant Professor, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School; Core Faculty Member, Rutgers Health

"Deciphering genomic signatures associating human dental oral craniofacial diseases with cardiovascular diseases using machine learning approaches"

Dr. Zeeshan Ahmed is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Medicine, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and Core Faculty Member at the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research, Rutgers Health. Dr. Ahmed’s lab at Rutgers is focused on highly innovative and collaborative scientific research. More specifically, they implement innovative multimodal artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) approaches to discover novel biomarkers and predict periodontal and cardiovascular diseases. The academic productivity of Dr. Ahmed is high, as he has produced more than 100 peer-reviewed publications as the first/last corresponding author; and received multiple awards, honors, and funding to support his research including grants, fellowships, scholarships.

Dr. Ibrahim Sevki Bayrakdar

"Can the blockchain-enabled interplanetary file system (Block-IPFS) be a solution for securely transferring imaging data for artificial intelligence research in oral and maxillofacial radiology?"

Dr. Ibrahim Sevki Bayrakdar was born on 13.09.1988 in Erzurum and completed his undergraduate and doctoral education at Atatürk University. He became a specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology in 2015. In 2016, he started his academic career as a faculty at Eskişehir Osmangazi University (ESOGU) School of Dentistry. Dr. Bayrakdar received the title of Associate Professor in 2019 and is still working at the same university. He established a dental Artificial Intelligence laboratory in the ESOGU School of Dentistry in 2020 and has focused on artificial intelligence research in dentistry. Also, Dr. Bayrakdar conducted research in the field of artificial intelligence at the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry between 2022 and 2023. He has more than 100 articles, 67 of which are international. Bayrakdar is the Deputy Director of ESOGU Computer-Aided Diagnosis and Treatment Application and an active member of the Turkish Association of Oral Diagnosis and Maxillofacial Radiology, the European Academy of Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology, International Association of Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology. In addition, CranioCatch Inc., which develops artificial intelligence technologies in dentistry within ESOGU Technopolis. He is the founder and chairman of the board of the company.

Dr. Ana Caetano

Centre for Immunobiology and Regenerative Medicine, Queen Mary University of London

"Redefining Mucosal Inflammation with Spatial Genomics"

Ana obtained her PhD at King’s College London supervised by Professor Paul Sharpe. This work revealed novel disease-associated cell phenotypes, and she was awarded the Sir Wilfred Fish Research Prize by the British Society of Periodontology and the King’s Outstanding Thesis Prize. She continued her work on oral barrier molecular and cellular mechanisms as a Clinical Research Fellow at King’s funded by the NIHR. In 2020, she was awarded a Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship to work with Dr Hironobu Fujiwara at the RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research in Kobe. 
She joined the Centre for Immunobiology and Regenerative Medicine at Queen Mary University of London in 2023 to start her own lab. Her group studies the nervous system of the oral mucosa to understand how its development, organization and function modulate health and disease mechanisms. Her research team uses a wide range of experimental strategies, including in vivo disease models, molecular and genetic manipulations, and computational modelling.

Dr. Prabhat K. Chaudhari

Professor, Division of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Deformities, Centre for Dental Education and Research

"Principles and Applications of Various 3D Scanning Methods for Image Acquisition for 3D Printing Applications in Oral Health Science"

Dr. Prabhat Kumar Chaudhari is currently working as an Additional Professor (Full-time) at the Division of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Deformities, Centre for Dental Education and Research (CDER), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. Dr. Chaudhari has a broad background in Dental Surgery, with expertise in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. He is also pursuing his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree (part-time) in the broad area of oral health and artificial intelligence from the National Institute of Technology Jalanndhar (NITJ), Punjab, India.

Dr. Chaudhari has 12 years of clinical, teaching and research experience. Currently, he is involved in teaching and training of fellowship program in Cleft and Craniofacial Orthodontics, Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) Students, Bachelor in Dental Assistance program. Dr. Chaudhari has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. He is examiner of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in orthodontic in several Indian Universities, subject matter expert of orthodontics of National Board of Examination (NBE), and Institutes of National Importance (INIs) of Government of India. He innovated five orthodontic appliances/devices including one patent by the Indian Patent Office (358486). Dr. Chaudhari is also working as Associate Editor of BMC Oral Health for Digital Dentistry Section and Section Editor of Orthodontics for the Journal of Oral Biology and Craniofacial Research.

Along with a strong background in clinical care, he is interested in research for the refinement of existing modalities in clinical care to improve the quality of life of orthodontic and cleft lip and palate patients. He has special interests in biomedical device innovation and its intellectual property rights. His current research interests are applications of digital technologies for orthodontic care of children with and without cleft lip and palate. He is committed to extending his research in these areas and training future generations through education and research.

Dr. Florin Eggmann

Senior Lecturer, University of Basel

"Implications of large language models such as ChatGPT for dental medicine"

Dr. Florin Eggmann, a senior lecturer at the University of Basel, earned his doctorate from the University of Zurich in 2015. He graduated from the University of Zurich Dental School in 2014. His main research interests include improving the management of deep carious lesions, developing surface pretreatments for durable bonding of CAD-CAM resin-based composites, and advancing the prevention and treatment of dental injuries. He is a member of the Center of Dental Traumatology at the University of Basel and serves as a board director of the Swiss Association of Preventive, Restorative, and Esthetic Dentistry (SSPRE). He also worked as a research fellow at the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania Dental School from 2022 to 2023. Dr. Eggmann's work has been recognized with several awards, including the Wrigley Prophylaxis Award in 2012, the SSPRE Research Award in 2016, and the VDZE Award in 2023

Emily A. Genovesi

Dental Student, University of Buffalo

“Additive 3-dimensional printing as a novel tool for pre- and postsurgical evaluation and patient education.”

Emily A. Genovesi is a third-year dental student at the University of Buffalo with aspirations to specialize in maxillofacial prosthodontics. As a member of the Arany Lab, Emily focuses on using 3D printing and computer-aided design to democratize prosthetics and advance digital dental innovation. She holds a Master’s degree in Translational Medicine from the City College of New York and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Davidson College.

Emily's expertise in digital fabrication fuels her passion for improving access to prosthodontics, particularly for vulnerable populations. In June 2024, she was selected to join Cohort 7 of the New York State Erie Niagara Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Scholars Program. Through this prestigious two-year statewide internship, Emily is committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals in medically underserved communities.

An avid cyclist, Emily participated in the 2024 Empire State Ride—a 560+ mile charitable bike ride from New York City to Niagara Falls—raising over $4,200 for the Roswell Park Cancer Research Institute in Buffalo, NY. She actively advocates for Head and Neck Cancer Awareness.

Dr. Salah Hafedh

Dr. Reinhilde Jacobs

Professor, University of Leuven

Reinhilde Jacobs is dentist, Doctor in Dental Sciences (PhD University of Leuven), periodontologist (KU Leuven) and Master in Dental Radiology (University of London). She is full professor at the University of Leuven and visiting professor at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden and the Dalian Medical University in China. R. Jacobs is heading the omfs impath research group of the KU Leuven (omfsimpath.be) and the clinical center of dentomaxillofacial radiology (UZleuven). She is Secretary General of the International Association of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology and President-elect of the Digital Dentistry Society. She is section editor of 5 journals (Clinical Oral Investigations, Journal of Dentistry (Digital Dentistry Section) European Journal of Radiology, International Journal of Oral Implantology and Oral Radiology). She has received the D Collen Research Travel Award (1994), a postdoctoral fellowship of the European Commission (1994-95), the IADR Young Investigators Award (1998) and the Belgian Joachim Award in Odontostomatology (1999). In 2013, she received a Dr Honoris Causa at the "Iuliu Hatieganu" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca. She is involved in many multidisciplinary and interuniversity research collaborations, with a specific focus on imaging research, artificial intelligence and bioprinting. She has been actively participating in 5 European projects and is (co-)author of 5 books and more than 650 publications in peer-reviewed journals besides multiple invited lectures and publications in other journals or books. Dr. Mary Anne Melo

"Three-dimensional (3D) printing in dental practice: Applications, areas of interest, and level of evidence"

Mary Anne Melo (DDS, MSc, Ph.D., Fellow ADM) is a clinical professor at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and currently serves as chair of the Department of General Dentistry. Dr. Melo applies her experience as a dentist and dental materials researcher to advance the development of smart and bioactive restorative materials. Her clinical areas of interest focus on minimally invasive dentistry, management of high caries risk patients, and esthetic dentistry. Her research has focused chiefly on anticaries approaches for caries-inhibiting, antibacterial, or remineralization functionalities. Her research group has pioneered the investigations of antibacterial and remineralizing dental adhesives and resin composites. Dr. Melo is a current member of the Academy of Operative Dentistry; the International Association for Dental Research; The American Academy of Cariology, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Melo is a co-inventor on two patents, has edited three books, and has published more than 200 papers in the area of dental materials. Several grants support her research. She lectures nationally and internationally on diverse topics of restorative dentistry.

Dr. Partha P. Ray

Dr. Sebastian Voelker

"Detecting high-risk neighborhoods and socioeconomic determinants for common oral diseases in Germany"

Sebastian Voelker is a full Professor of Public Health at the International University of Applied Sciences, Germany, and serves as a Data Scientist at BFS Health Finance, Bertelsmann. His academic focus lies in the analysis of secondary health claims data and health geography, utilizing geographical, epidemiological, and machine learning methods to investigate complex health disparities and intervention requirements.


Voelker's research explores the intersections of social determinants of health, healthcare, environmental health, and prevention. His current work centers on the relationship between dental health outcomes and the geography of care. Additionally, he is an Associate Member of hsg Bochum, University of Applied Sciences, Germany, and serves as the speaker of the Health Geography Working Group of the German Society for Epidemiology, where he also holds a position as an extended executive board member. Voelker holds a Ph.D. in Health Geography, a Diploma in Geography from the University of Bonn, and an MSc in Public Health from PMU Salzburg, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to health and social issues research.

Dr. Cornelia C. Walther

Cornelia C. Walther, PhD, As a humanitarian practitioner, she worked for two decades with the United Nations in large scale emergencies in West Africa, Asia, and Latin America with a focus on hybrid advocacy and social and behavior change. As a lecturer, executive coach and researcher, she is collaborating with universities across the Americas and Europe. She presently is a Visiting Fellow at the Wharton initiative for Neuroscience (WiN)/Wharton AI and Analytics; as well as a Senior Fellow at the School of Dental Medicine. She is affiliated with MindCORE and the Center for social norms and behavioral dynamics at the University of Pennsylvania. Since 2021 her focus is on aspirational algorithms and the potential to harness technology for social good; briefly said Artificial intelligence for Inspired Action (AI4IA). In 2017 she initiated the POZE (Perspective – Optimization – Zeniths – Exposure) dynamic in Haiti, which has since grown into a global transdisciplinary network of like-minded researchers and practitioners committed to inclusive social change.

Dr. Rong (Rose) Wang

"Machine Learning Analysis of Microtensile Bond Strength of Dental Adhesives"

Dr. Rose Wang is an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Oral and Craniofacial Sciences at School of Dentistry of University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC). Her research focuses on two major areas: the early detection of oral cancer, and the application of machine learning/artificial intelligence to dental, oral, and craniofacial research. Dr. Wang received her PhD in Health Sciences and Technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School in 2005. During her 10 years in industry, she developed and commercialized internationally patented coupling-antenna technology for health protection. Since joining UMKC in 2018, she published research and review papers in peer reviewed journals including Journal of Dental Research, Dental Materials, Operative Dentistry, International Journal of Molecular Sciences, Diagnostics and Scientific Reports.

Dr. Rose Wang is a Review Editor for Frontier in Oral Health and Associate Editor for Technology in Cancer Research & Treatment. She is an ad hoc reviewer for Spectrochimica Acta Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, Analyst, Clinical Oral Investigations, Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences, Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis, and International Journal of Polymer Sciences. Dr. Wang is a mentee for the 2022-2023 Class of the AADOCR MIND the Future program. She is a member of the AADOCR Committee on Diversity and Inclusion (2024-2027) and Secretary and Treasurer for AADOCR Kansas City.

Dr. Rose Wang is the Principal Investigator of an NIH R21 grant titled “Infrared Spectroscopic Imaging and Machine Learning for Risk Stratification of Oral Epithelial Dysplasia” (01/2023 – 12/2024), and an UMKC Funding for Excellence grant titled “Decoding Bio-Spectroscopy with Artificial Intelligence for Early Oral Cancer Detection” (01/2023-12/2023). She is a Scientific Reviewer for the NIH Study Sections EBIT and DSR. She is the inventor of two patents in application by the UMKC office of technology commercialization. She has mentored and coached summer scholars, MS/PhD students and postdoctoral fellows at the UMKC School of Dentistry.
