June 24 Visit of Bengali Schools students to Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center
I would like to share the news about the visit of students from Bengali Schools in the Greater Philadelphia area to Van Pelt Dietrich Library Center on Saturday, June 24, 2017. This is the second time that the event was hosted by the South Asia Library. The visit was immensely successful.
For the students, it was opening up a world of knowledge and learning with fun. The parents (and grandparents) were very impressed with the children's collections in the Bengali language (audio, visual and print) that we hold here. It was a Saturday well spent with access to resources in the language they are learning.
The 50 guests included 24 students from 4 Bengali Schools of Pennsylvania and Delaware.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who were involved with this event. Ancil George and his student workers Beatrice and Dory for welcoming the guests and showing the way, Dot Porter for her assistance with the tools on the 6th floor (the storybook reading session was a hit!), Vickie Karasic, Jaime Estrada, Julianna Pakstis, David Toccafondi, Patricia Guardiola, Catrice Barrett, Ya, Will Hodgson and Wes Martin for their assistance and input with the digital session (the excitement of the kids was something to see!), Patty Gilson and Catherine Rutan for their prompt help with the borrowing of audio and visual resources on display and Aleta Arthurs for the refreshments.
