Finding print and microfilm periodicals at Penn

  • When you know the title(s) of the newspaper(s) you want to see: Do a Title search in Franklin for the name of the periodical, e.g. Newsweek. Always check the holdings record to see which issues we hold and in what format. Most older newspapers are available only on microfilm.
  • When you don't know the title(s) of periodical(s) you need: To identify periodicals from a particular city or country held by the Penn libraries, try a Subject search in Franklin with the word "periodicals" and the name of the country or city. So, for Indian periodicals, search for "periodicals india," or for Parisian newspapers, "periodicals france paris." To do a more general keyword search use the "Format" facet to limit results to periodicals.  It may also be useful to limit your search to titles in a particular language.
