ORCiD: DataCite

DataCite

DataCite provides persistent identifiers, such as Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), for research outputs and resources.  This allows them to be findable and citable globally.

Linking ORCID and DataCite

Linking to DataCite from the ORCID platform with the ORCID Search & Link Wizard

  1. Log on to ORCID.
  2. Scroll to the Works section of your profile and click Add.
  3. In the drop down list select Search & Link.
  4. Select DataCite., this will direct you to log in or create a DataCite Profiles account.
  5. Navigate to your DataCite Profile Settings page.
  6. Click on the drop down on the top right and select Commons Page (DataCite Commons).

Import citations from ORCID to DataCite

DataCite relies on the metadata associated with a DOI, there is no way to import works from ORCID to DataCite.

Import citations from DataCite to ORCID

Manually Import Citations

  1. Search for a DOI in the DataCite Commons search box.
  2. Click to open the full record of the item.
  3. Click on the Add to ORCID Record button.
  4. Wait for the claim to go through.

Setup AutoImport of Citations

  1. Log into DataCite.
  2. Visit the Settings page of your DataCite Profile.
  3. Enable auto-update by clicking Get ORCID Token.
  4. Log into your ORCID profile.
  5. Approve DataCite as a Trusted Organization

AutoImports will occur when a new DOI is created with your ORCID ID in the Creator field.
