The University of Pennsylvania Libraries are completely closed from December 23, 2020, through January 5, 2021.
That means there is NO PickUp@Penn or Books By Mail services happening during this period.
Anything that was awaiting pickup that had not already been held for a week or more will be available starting January 6 at 10 a.m.
Any books by mail requests that were in process before we closed will be mailed on or after January 6.
Patrons may continue to place requests during this interval, but please be aware that no staff will be processing these requests until we return to work in the building January 6. The first day new requests (anything not already handled) will be available for pickup is January 7. But because of the closure, if the volume of requests submitted during this period is high, it may take more than a day or two to catch up, so there is no guarantee. Please wait until you receive the email letting you know your item is available before coming to the door to ask for your book.
Neither BorrowDirect nor E-ZBorrow will be operating during this break. Neither will we process Interlibrary Loan requests. Many of our library partners are already closed and will not be responding to requests until they return to work in January.
The book return located on the outside of the southeast corner of the Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center, to the right of the ground floor(Goldstein Undergraduate Study Center) entrance, will remain open throughout the break, and will be checked daily, although returns will not be processed immediately. All library materials, including resource sharing items (BorrowDirect, E-ZBorrow, Interlibrary Loan) and media such as DVD's, may be returned in the book slot. Be sure to leave the paperwork in the book for most efficient processing.
You may email us if you have questions but note that all staff have been granted special winter vacation during these break and no one is working so it may take a while before your email is answered.
Have a safe, healthy and happy holiday and break.
