Q&A Panel: Description

For the past few years, our panel discussion, "The Penn Libraries: Secrets to Students Success", has provided students and their families an overview of all that the Penn Libraries has to offer while giving insider tips and advice to help new students get started their academic careers started on the right foot. 

The Q&A portion of the event, in particular, has given students and their parents some tools that they needed and reassured them that the libraries and our librarians are here to support their academic success.  During our current time of uncertainty, when so much is unclear about how students can thrive and still make the most of a very unique situation, this information is even more valuable. 

Of all the events we have planned, this panel discussion has the opportunity to check off all the key components of what we want to share with students -- our libraries, our people, and our knowledge.

Event Details

Since we believe that this is a prime opportunity for both students and their parents to engage with our librarians directly, we want to provide opportunities for students to access this information live and remotely from across the world.  Three sessions will be available to accommodate the viewers in various time zones, both domestically and internationally.

  • 10:00am - 11:00am EST
  • 2:00pm - 3:00pm EST
  • 8:00pm - 9:00pm EST

 

Event Program

  • Moderator will introduce the panelists and invite participation from the attendees (<5 min)
  • Short introduction about the Penn Libraries, incl. virtual support services  (15-20 min)
  • Q&A (40-45 min)

 

Help Needed

Approximately 9-12 library panelists

Responsibilities include:

  • Willingness to present part of the introduction, if needed.
  • Ability to answer questions thoughtfully and thoroughly
  • Enthusiasm and positive attitude to make students and their families welcome. 

 

Technical Requirements

  • Must have a Zoom account
  • Must have a reliable wifi connection
  • Must have a dependable camera and microphone connection
  • Must be comfortable on live video and okay with being recorded.

Please note that, per the request of the University's NSOAI, all workshops need to be recorded and available for students who could not access the workshop live.

What Should I Do Next?

  1. If you've been contacted, check your email for a link to the sign up sheet. 
  2. Wait for a followup email in August with more details for participation, along with talking points. 
  3. Complete a tech check (specific tech details and requirements will be provided).
  4. Dorothy will check-in with you and your co-panelists before the event to coordinate the presentation.

Due to the smaller number of available slots, we are contacting former panelists and some staff who have been active in other student outreach efforts first.
