Patient Education Resources

 

The resources below are available to PAH Clinicians and staff. They are intended for educating patients on diseases, medications, and more.

  • Access Medicine
    • Includes over 100 patient education handouts on broad, common topics such as "skin cancer" Each handout summarizes basic information about a condition and provides treatment options.
  • Lexi-Comp
    • Lexi-Comp Patient Education module provides patient educational packets with information on medications, conditions, and/or procedures. The condition/procedure leaflets are available in English and Spanish, while the adult- and pediatric-specific medication leaflets are available in up to 19 languages.

MedlinePlus brings you reliable, up-to-date information about diseases, conditions, and wellness issues in language you can understand, anytime, anywhere, for free.  You can use MedlinePlus to learn about the latest treatments, look up information on a drug or supplement, find out the meanings of words, or view medical videos or illustrations. You can also get links to the latest medical research on your topic or find out about clinical trials on a disease or condition.

  • PubMed
    • Allows you to filter your search results by Patient Education Handouts. Some journals have begun publishing summaries intended for patients or the lay public to explain a procedure or condition or summarize or comment on articles that report scientific or medical findings in the same issue.
    • Once you run a search, filter your results to Article Type: Patient Education Handouts.
  • UpToDate (Patient Info Tab)
    • Contains 1000+ patient education materials about the most common medical conditions, procedures, and medications. All patient education information available in English and Spanish.
    • The Basics: Topics are 1-3 pages in length, written in simple language and are best for a general overview.
      Beyond the Basics: Topics are 5-10 pages long and more detailed. They are for individuals who are comfortable with some technical medical terms.
    • From the UpToDate homepage, click on “Patient Info” tab to browse by topic.
    • Patients can access the free patient-level topics at www.uptodate.com/patients.
