Guest Artist Workshop -- The Photo Book: Structure/Sequence with Louie Palu & Julianna Foster

by Mary Tasillo on 2019-02-01T14:01:00-05:00 | 0 Comments

Common Press is hosting a special photo book workshop on February 15, 1:00pm - 5:00 pm, with two guest artists – Philadelphia-based artist and curator Julianna Foster, and award-winning documentary photographer Louie Palu.

The Photo Book as an art object can be represented in myriad ways from limited self-produced zines/catalogs and small press publications to unique structures like accordion folds, pop-ups and altered books.  In this workshop, participants will be provided with book structure examples and insight on how to sequence images into a book format that best fits their idea, which will be produced outside of the workshop. An introduction will be given by each instructor on photo book projects they have created in addition to presenting books by other artists from various collections.  A hands-on exercise will provide some knowledge into sequencing and editing images as well as building mock up book structures to use as reference/resource material for future projects.

Space is limited. Please register in advance. Registration currently open to Penn students, faculty, and staff. Non-Penn affiliates may email or message us to be added to a waitlist should space remain.
