Furness Library: ICA's First Gallery Space

Campbell’s Soup Invitation to ICA Exhibition

On October 8, 1965, Penn's Institute for Contemporary Art opened Andy Warhol’s first solo museum show. At the time, the ICA was located in the Fisher Fine Arts Library, exactly where the gallery is today.  The space awaits another first - hosting the 2019 Visual Studies Senior Thesis Exhibition.

The gallery space is located in the purple area; please refer to the drawing (link below) for measured details.

Dos and Donts for Mounting Your Installation

The Fisher Fine Arts Library is indeed a working library and one beloved  for its quiet, contemplative atmosphere.  We are very excited to have the Visual Studies Senior Thesis show in our library but we do need you all to observe the following:

  • No food can be incorporated into your work.
  • The gallery space is accessible during all open hours of the library.  Materials can be secured in our stand-alone armed cases but take care mounting anything valuable into your display.  We are not responsible for anything taken from your installation.
  • Any audio must be accessed/experienced with headphones.
  • Video should be played in such a way that does not disrupt the main reading room study spaces.
  • Absolutely no drilling into the brick or terracotta.

Before you commit resources and time into your concept, be sure to meet with Patty Guardiola to make sure the space can work for your project and your project is appropriate for the space.
