On several occasions when a material hits stateside Federal Express will call us or email us to ask about the white powder we have in our packages. The white powder could be a lens cleaning agent, or powdered aerogel, or some white artist pigment that we have asked about.
In trying to get unknown white powder through customs we have often had to sign strange legal documents stating that the white powder is not a toxic material or a controlled substance and that we will be using it for display purposes only. Why they believe us is anybody's guess. But we are pretty sure that we are on some list somewhere and that Big Brother is watching our collection very closely.
