Can I use the libraries' interlibrary loan service?
The Holman Biotech Commons can obtain books and copies of journal articles not owned by the University Library System. This benefit is limited to those patrons with a PennKey and a Library Account (Library Accounts are established when Holman Biotech Commons barcodes are issued). For more information about InterLibrary Loan at the Holman Biotech Commons, please visit our InterLibrary Loan page.
Use PennCard or Holman Biotech Commons Barcode to borrow.
Barcode Stickers: UPHS and CHOP employees who are not eligible for PennCards (used by Penn faculty, students, and staff for borrowing) may apply at the Holman Biotech Commons Circulation Desk for a barcode sticker to be placed on their current institutional ID. This will allow them to borrow items from any of the Penn Libraries. For more information about borrowing eligibility contact the Holman Biotech Commons Circulation Desk, email: circbio@pobox.upenn.edu or (215) 898-5815.
Expiration Date: Barcode stickers expire 1 year from the date of activation. They must be renewed in person at the Holman Biotech Commons Circulation Desk.
Loan Periods: All Libraries: 28 days. Patrons without a Penn ID may not borrow books from the Biddle Library.
Renewals: Patrons may renew books online in Franklin directly by selecting the "My Account" button in Franklin. For details visit: Renew your own books online!.
Fines: There are no fines for overdue books at the Holman Biotech Commons except for overdue interlibrary loan items. However, there are fines for non-returned and lost items, as well as processing fees that may be assessed.
UPHS employees can access Penn Library electronic resources including restricted online databases and e-journals. Access is controlled through the Library's proxy service using PennKey. In addition, a PennKey is required for access to Library workstations and the Library's wireless network and wireless laptops. More information is available at PennKey Information for CHOP, SOM affiliates, and UPHS.
If you are having trouble accessing resources, please email the Holman Biotech Commons staff at circbio@pobox.upenn.edu
