The American National Biography (ANB) is the successor to The Dictionary of American Biography (DAB, 1926-1937). It is a source of biographical information on Americans of significance, broadly defined. The one fast rule for inclusion is that the person must have died before 1996.
Brief overview entries and encyclopedia articles on a variety of subjects, including people. Look at the word count of the entry in the search results to get a sense of depth.

In both of the resources below, use the Reviews filter in Document Type. Note that not all reviews are properly categorized, so if you have a particular performance in mind, it may be better to search for the work and limit by date.
