PowerNotes: Home

1. Go to https://powernotes.com/
2. Click "Log In" at the upper right corner.
3. Click "Sign Up" on the log in page.
4. Sign up using your upenn.edu email account.
5. Add and enable the browser extension. (PowerNotes works in Chrome and Firefox. Their website recognizes which browser you are using.)
6. Go to any webpage and highlight text.
7. Add the highlight to a topic. Add any notes you have. Explore features for organizing and exporting your highlights and notes.

PowerNotes is a web app that helps with online research -- gathering and keeping track of source materials, staying organized, and creating a research outline. You can: 

• Capture content with the PowerNotes Extension

• Stay organized with custom topics

• Track your progress with the Extension sidebar

• Edit and approve citation info

• Review and reorganize your research with project outlines

• Download your work to .docx and .xlsx

• Manage your research with projects

PowerNotes has robust help documentation for tips and troubleshooting. Here are some common issues:

• Reformatting PDFs to be compatible with PowerNotes

• Highlighting on HTML vs. PDF

• Opening saved PDFs in Chrome

• Setting Chrome to automatically open PDFs in Chrome rather than downloading them

• Faster and fine highlighting

PowerNotes also has a feedback and support system. If anything doesn’t work, click on the PowerNotes icon in the extension tray then on the “Feedback” link or use the “Feedback” button on the right side of the PowerNotes sidebar (this button will auto-populate the URL you are on too). A person from PowerNotes will try to respond by the next business day.
