Undergraduate Japanese Studies Resources: Overview

A guide for undergraduates doing primarily English-language research on Japanese studies, with a limited knowledge of Japanese.

Introduction

This guide provides search and reference resources for doing research on Japan, for undergraduates primarily working in English. It covers a wide variety of resources, from library catalogs to databases, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other reference sources.

Not all of the resources found in this guide are online. Some important sources of help for research are still found in print. Reference material can be consulted in either the East Asia Seminar Room (fifth floor of Van Pelt Library) or in the general Reference stacks (first floor of Van Pelt Library). Citations are provided here for helpful resources available to you.
