New Clinical Resource: BSAVA Library for clinical teaching and practice

Penn Libraries now subscribes to the BSAVA Library, a searchable collection of dozens of manuals, conference proceedings, and drug and client information from the British Small Animal Veterinary Association. The BSAVA manuals (many with Penn Vet authors) are well-known for their detailed photos, tables and figures, and some of the more recent editions link to video clips.

Our subscription includes:

• All BSAVA Manuals of small animal medicine, surgery and diagnostics (currently 46)
• BSAVA/VPIS Guide to Procedures in Small Animal Practice
• BSAVA/VPIS Guide to Common Canine and Feline Poisons
• Annual BSAVA Congress Proceedings and lecture summaries (with audio and video recordings where available)
• BSAVA Small Animal Formulary (dogs, cats and exotic species). In a JAVMA book review, Dr. Emily Sorah noted "users in the United States will need to be able to appreciate differences in drug names and availability, drug regulatory categories, and prescribing laws."
• Client leaflets on small animal pet care, medicines, behavior and exotic pets
• Scientific information sheets on topics in small animal disease and practice from BSAVA’s scientific committee
• Themed collections: such as help for clinical research, wellness, and mentoring skills
• Companion (magazine) and FECAVA Newsletters (Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations)

Because some BSAVA subscribers purchase individual books, purple unlocked padlock icons indicate which content is available to Penn readers.  Note that although Journal of Small Animal Practice (JSAP) is listed on the website, Penn's subscription is available through Wiley at a different website. Use the Advanced Search to search across the content, then use facets to limit results to select chapters, lectures, procedures,etc.; or to limit by species, target audience, subject area or date.   Note that the search can be slow; perhaps because the servers are remote.  Warning:  Creating a personal account to use the "Favourites" feature will lose access to the full-text when logged in         After selecting a chapter, use the tabs to jump to full-text, figures or related content, or download the PDF.   Please let the library staff know if you have any questions or comments about this new resource.
