This summer the furnishings and computers in the Fairchild Electronic Classroom, Hill room 234 were updated to give users a flexible range of options and to maximum use of the space. Tables and chairs are on rollers so room users can adjust the furnishings to meet their needs. The new layout increases the number of seats from 16 to 24.
The changes were made with the invaluable input of stakeholders who use the room for lab and administrative meetings, rounds, interviews, instruction and computer training. They requested a variety of layouts from U-shaped to facilitate discussion and instruction, lecture style seating with a long table in the front for guest panelists, and C-shaped so instructors teaching software programs have easy access to assist students learning computer programs.
Other requests included charging stations for laptops, additional whiteboards and room for the instructor to stand besides at the podium. We added two movable power towers for charging laptops and a movable podium. A wall-length white board is on order and we are planning for an updated projection/display system. (The room ventilation was deemed too disruptive to update the room for video conferencing.)
To use the room for computer-based training, laptops with academic software can be requested when booking the room through Schedule.vet.
The welcoming new layout has increased the number of students who use the room for studying when it is not booked for meetings, further optimizing the use of the space.
