The purpose of ASHR is to promote the study of both the theory and practice of rhetoric in all periods and languages and its relationship with philosophy, poetics, politics, religion, law, and other aspects of the cultural context.

Founded in 1974, the Council for Programs in Technical and Scientific Communication brings together directors and administrators from across the United States and increasingly from abroad. The annual meetings follow a roundtable format,emphasizing discussion.

The Council of Writing Program Administrators is a national association of college and university faculty with professional responsibilities for (or interests in) directing writing programs. Members include directors of freshman composition, undergraduate writing, WAC/WID/CAC, and writing centers, as well as department chairs, division heads, deans, and so on.

The International Network of Writing-across-the Curriculum Programs (INWAC) is an informal community of teachers, researchers, and institutions involved in the development of writing across the curriculum (WAC) and in disciplines (WID) locally, regionally, nationally, or internationally.

The International Writing Centers Association, a National Council of Teachers of English affiliate founded in 1983, fosters the development of writing center directors, tutors, and staff by sponsoring meetings, publications, and other professional activities; by encouraging scholarship connected to writing center-related fields; and by providing an international forum for writing center concerns.

Founded in 1883, the Modern Language Association of America provides opportunities for its members to share their scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues and to discuss trends in the academy.

RSA welcomes scholars, teachers, and students of rhetoric in all of its manifestations. RSA’s purpose is to support and advance the work of people who study rhetoric in a variety of disciplinary contexts.

The Society for Disability Studies (SDS) is an international non-profit organization that promotes the study of disability in social, cultural, and political contexts. Disability Studies recognizes that disability is a key aspect of human experience, and that the study of disability has important political, social, and economic implications for society as a whole, including both disabled and nondisabled people.
