Subject Heading Searching

Using Subject Headings to further your research is simple! Find the Franklin record for a book you find useful on the topic of your choice, and scroll down to the "Subjects" section of the Franklin record. There will be a list of "Subject Headings" that you can click on. When you click on a given subject heading, it will take you to a page with all other books that share that subject heading. This can help you explore other books in the field that you may have missed.

Call Number Browse

Question: How can I browse books on the shelves when so many books are in different locations? (Fisher Fine arts, Van Pelt, Libra, etc).

Answer: Use the "Call Number Browse" feature in Franklin. As you can see from the image above, there is a drop-down menu in Franklin that allows you to select "Call Number Browse" as an option. Once you make that selection, you can copy the call number of a book you find particularly useful. The results that you will get will be a list of books that would appear on the shelf next to that book if all the libraries were combined into once space. This can be particularly useful when trying to find other books in a field that share the same subject matter (as is the nature of academic libraries).
