Library catalogs list the materials contained in the library's collections: books (paper and ebook), videos, sound recordings, and serial publications, such as journals, magazines and newspapers. Franklin, which is the catalog of the Penn Libraries (excepting the Biddle Law Library), besides describing each item, also indicates where it is located and if it is available. In the case of serials, it indicates which volumes or years are covered.
