Traveling to Philadelphia

By Air

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is serviced by most major airlines and is a hub for US Airways.

To get from the airport to the University of Pennsylvania campus, located in University City, attendees have several options. Travel time is approximately 25 minutes.

  • Rail: The SEPTA Regional Rail Airport Line service departs all airport terminals once every 30 minutes. A one-way Regional Rail fare to Center City stations (including the University City, 30th Street, Suburban, Jefferson, and Temple stations) is $6.75, or $9.25 to any other station beyond Center City. The fare may be paid in cash on board the train, or a SEPTA Quick Trip Fare for travel on the Airport Line may be purchased at any airport terminal station. Use your credit or debit card to buy your one-way fare at the fare kiosk located at each terminal platform stop. The schedule for the Airport Line (weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays all have separate schedules) is available online.
  • Taxi: Cabs are available outside baggage claim areas and charge a flat rate of $28.50/trip to Center City Philadelphia, including much of University City (see zone details for more information). To return to the airport, download the Curb app or call to reserve a cab.
  • Shuttle: Delaware Express Shuttle or other airport-authorized service.
  • Rental cars and more: For additional information about ground transportation to and from the airport, please see the airport's Ground Transportation information.

By Train

Several Amtrak routes stop at Philadelphia's 30th Street Station.

Located at 2955 Market Street, the station is 15 minute walk or a short cab ride away from the University of Pennsylvania campus. Taxis, Lyft, Uber, and public transportation by bus, subway, and trolley ($2.50 cash fare, exact change only, or by SEPTA Key Card) are available from the station to the campus and to nearby hotels. To access trolleys and subway, exit the train station on the west side and cross 30th Street to the SEPTA station at the northwest corner of 30th and Market.

By Bus

BoltBus and Megabus both offer reasonably priced transportation for travelers coming from nearby cities including Boston, New York, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Albany, and Washington, D.C. Both bus lines stop near 30th & Market Streets, next to 30th Street train station and only blocks from the Penn campus.

Greyhound Bus Lines provides service to Philadelphia. The bus depot is located at 1001 Filbert Street in Center City. Taxis, Lyft, Uber, and public transportation by bus, subway, and trolley ($2.50 cash fare, exact change only, or by SEPTA Key Card) are available from the station to the University of Pennsylvania campus and to nearby hotels.

By Car

Interstate highways leading to Philadelphia include I-95 and I-76 and their connected routes. To find directions to the conference venue, use the address "3420 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104" as your destination.

Most major car rental companies have locations in Philadelphia. Enterprise, Hertz, Budget, and National have locations at Amtrak's 30th Street Station, near the Penn campus. A list of car rental companies available at the airport is provided here.
