This site tracks trends in the use and output of key library services.  The Libraries will adapt and expand these dashboards as new data sources become available and as services change to meet new demands of the Penn community

In addition to the key indicators above, more detail on the Libraries service delivery can be found on the adjacent tabs:

  • Library Webpages - this tab tracks overall Library (www.library.upenn.edu)  and Franklin traffic for the semester.  It also includes more detailed statistics for the following (updated daily or weekly): Library, Franklin, and the Libraries COVID-19 news and updates page
  • Reference - this tab captures daily statistics for Consultations, Chat, and Libanswers 
  • Canvas - this tab shows an overview of Canvas usage over the semester and daily detail, as well as overview and detailed data about the number of sites created this semester, and help ticket informtaiotn. 
  • Ares/Reserves  - This tab focuses  on our electronic reserves - it features data for total items posted to Ares and items posted to Ares by document type (input measures) as well as overview and detail data for Ares traffic from Canvas and downloads (delivery measures)
  • Collection Usage - this tab notes the circulation of Physical items from the Libraries, usage of electronic materials, and interlibrary loan.
  • Tech Center Tickets - The Tech Center, collaboratively managed by the Penn Libraries and Information Systems and Computing, provides general IT support services for students at the University.  This 24x7 services provides help with hardware, software, and networking issues and can assist with the use of Penn’s centrally provided IT services.  During the COVID-19 related shutdown, all services are being provided remotely.
  • Virtual Computer Lab - The Libraries' virtual computer lab allows students to remotely access software applications normally accessible in Library computer labs. Software includes in-demand titles that students can’t easily access by other means.

*The Hathi Trust Emergency Temporary Access Service (ETAS) is a service provided to Member institutions in response to the move to remote learning necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Under ETAS, Member institutions and their patrons can access material regardless of copyright, as long as that institution holds a physical copy of the work in its collection.  

These usage statistics are distinct from the E-Book section requests, which are drawn from Penn's own electronic collections.
