Lawrence Christmas ~ Civil Rights Activist

PDM 1918

Dr. Lawrence Christmas
Veteran, Dentist, and Civic Leader

An Army veteran of World War I, this 1918 graduate of Penn Dental Medicine practiced dentistry in Philadelphia for nearly 30 years. Deeply committed to community development, he served for over five decades on the board of Berean Savings and Loan—the only Black-operated institution of its kind in Philadelphia—including as board chairman.

He also helped found the Philadelphia chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious Black collegiate fraternity, dedicated to academic excellence, leadership, and service.
