Yela Brichta ~ Artist

PDM 1925

Dr. Yela Brichta

Born in Hungary, PDM immigrated to the United States in 1924. After a successful 30-year career in dentistry, she made a dramatic life change following her first art exhibition in 1953—choosing to leave her profession to fully pursue the creative life. Her artistic journey spanned continents, with work created in Portugal, Spain, Italy, the Canary Islands, and beyond. Her bold transition reflects a lifelong commitment to exploration, reinvention, and the transformative power of art.

"The qualities 'that made me a good dentist have helped me in art, too.' In both, she said, you need "intuition" and "sensitivity of fingers.'"
