Jews and the Natural Sciences: Home

Understanding science in the widest possible sense, this guide offers resources for how Jews investigate, react to, and engage with the physical universe.

Explore how the history of science, medicine and technology may be seen from the perspective of Jewish culture. Explore theories, institutions, and paradigms that shaped how Jews have studied nature, and the ideas, applications, and cultural and religious consequences that emerged in relation to Classical, Christian, Muslim, and/or secular approaches.

Among the subjects of inquiry are ecology and the environment, astronomy; calendrical systems; geographical knowledge; medieval and early modern natural philosophy; the history of medicine; evolutionary biology; contemporary research in genetics; chemistry; and physics.
