Archimedes Medical Calculator (Free Version)

A free app is available for iPhone, iPad, Android and Blackberry devices through two separate platforms: SkyScape & Omnio (optimized for iPad users). Registration is required.

 

Download the SkyScape/Omnio App on you mobile device

Download the appropriate app (Omnio or Skyscape) depending on your device at: http://hdl.library.upenn.edu/1017/99100

  • Once the appropriate app has been installed, open the app and accept the terms.
  • You will be prompted to enter your SkyScape login & password.  If you haven't setup an account, follow the instructions to do so.
  • You then have the option to download free resources available through SkyScape by selecting "Settings" and then "Add Resources". You can select or deselect these resources depending on whether you would like to install them.
  • Make sure the “Medical Calculator” option is checked.
  • Click “Done” when you are done downloading resources.

Note: The DynaMed app is also available through SkyScape. Access to this app is provided free through Penn.

Browzine

When initially launching BrowZine, select University of Pennsylvania from the drop down list. Enter your PennKey credentials when prompted and you are ready to go! Unlike other current awareness tools, you will be able to access your journals from off-campus without having to proxy.

Clinical Key

The mobile interface is web based so you will need to be connected to the internet when using on your smartphone or tablet.  In order to access via your device, follow these instructions:

  • You will need to first access ClinicalKey on the Penn/UPHS campus.
  • Once there, register for a personal account by clicking “Register”.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to create a username and password. You must use your upenn email address, gmail or other commercial email account will not work.
  • Login to the ClinicalKey platform using the username and password provided during registration. Click on your name in the upper right corner. Click the "Remote Access" link. Apply for remote access using the same upenn email address provided during registration. In the Choose Organization popup window, select UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA - University of Pennsylvania - NERL. There are two entries for this; selecting one will select both entries. Click the Continue button.
  • ClinicalKey will display an activation message and send a confirmation email. In the confirmation email, click the link to officially start your remote access.
  • Download the free ClinicalKey Mobile app from the App Store or from Google Play.
  • Launch the app from your device, and sign in using the email and password you created.

Remote access is granted for 180 days. Prior to the end of the 180 days, log into your ClinicalKey personal account via the library's link. This will extend access another 180 days.

Dynamed Plus

DynaMed Plus mobile access has recently changed.  The mobile app is available for any iPhone or iPad running iOS 7.0 or higher as well as any Android device running Android 20.4 or higher.  The app requires at least 500MB of memory.

 

Download the DynaMed Mobile app:

Next, access Dynamed Plus using your browser at: http://hdl.library.upenn.edu/1017/83819. You may be prompted to authenticate with your PennKey.

  • Click the "Mobile" link in the top menu on the screen.  You will be prompted ot enter your email. 
  • Open the email sent by DynaMed ON YOUR MOBILE DEVICE. 
  • Click the "authenticateion key" link that appears in the email. 
  • The Dynamed Plus app should open and installation will begin.

Epocrates Rx

EpocratesThis free app is available for iPhone, Blackberry, Palm, Android and Windows Mobile devices. You can download the app to your mobile device by first selecting the platform at: http://hdl.library.upenn.edu/1017/94998.

FirstConsult

A free app is available for iPhone and iPad via the iTunes App Store.

 

 

Before downloading the app, you must set up an account with ClinicalKey online.

  • Using your PC, access ClinicalKey at: http://hdl.library.upenn.edu/1017/119850
  • In the upper right-hand corner of the screen, select "Register".
  • Following the directions listed on the page, submit the required information. Please take note of your ClinicalKey username (email address) and password.
  • Once your account has been created, download the FirstConsult App using your iPhone or iPad. During the software setup on you iOS device, you will be prompted for your newly created ClinicalKey username and password.  Please note that the First Consult app might ask for your MDConsult account information.  Enter your ClinicalKey information instead.  The app and additional instructions can be found at: http://hdl.library.upenn.edu/1017/99045.

Medscape

MedscapeBefore downloading the free app, setup an account with Medscape.  Select the Register option in the upper right-hand corner of the Medscape screen: http://hdl.library.upenn.edu/1017/8175

After creating your account, download the appropriate version of the Medscape app by following this link: http://hdl.library.upenn.edu/1017/91814

Micromedex

Micromedex® Drug Interaction is free, several other Micromedex apps require an institution password in order to unlock.  To find the password, access the online version of Micromedex at http://hdl.library.upenn.edu/1017/25456.  Once there, click the Download Center link in the upper right-hand corner.  Instructions will include the appropriate password.  The password must be entered exactly as they appear on the screen, and they expire on a quarterly basis.

PsychiatryOnline

A mobile-optimized version of PsychiatryOnline can be accessed through your mobile device’s Web browser.  Before you may access on you mobile device you must first create a "My POL" account from a desktop computer on the Penn campus.  Follow this link to access PsychiatryOnline on you desktop machine and create an account: http://hdl.library.upenn.edu/1017/53779

Once you have created an account access the mobile-optimized site here: http://hdl.library.upenn.edu/1017/95003

Look for the "Sign In" link that will appear below the list of DSM Library titles.  Sign in.

PubMed Plus

uCentral from Unbound Medicine

Before using this site, you must set up an individual uCentral account.

  • Using your PC, go to uCentral at: http://hdl.library.upenn.edu/1017/22295
  • In the upper right-hand corner of the screen, click “Login”.
  • Choose “Register”.
  • Following the directions listed on the page, submit the required information. Please take note of your newly created uCentral/Unbound Medicine username and password.
  • After your account has been created, you will receive a registration confirmation email. This email includes instructions for installing the app on Apple, Blackberry, Android and Windows platforms (or you can follow the directions on the Web page that appears after you've finished registration).
  • Once the app has been installed, open the app. You will be prompted for your newly created uCentral/Unbound Medicine username and password.
