Searching SciFinder
SciFinder-n allows for multiple query methods, including text searching, fielded searches, and drawing substances. The method employed for your search can substantially alter the returned results even when similar data is input.
Fielded searches are useful particularly for references. Using fielded searches for keywords, titles, authors, or other fields can help to return reasonable sizes of references for perusal. Truncation is allowed in SciFinder-n, and boolean operators will separate each term.

Drawing substances are useful particularly for substance and reaction searches. Drawing particles, or substructures of particles, can be used to find particular structures without relying on potentially inconsistent naming structures. Furthermore, this can be used to search for currently unknown substances by conducting a Retrosynthetic Analysis.

These two methods can also be combined in any search context to filter results or get more specificity on particular topics or structures of substances addressed in the results.
