Chemistry Library Student Assistant Manual: Daily Delivery

Processing the Daily Delivery

Truck Delivery

General

  • Truck deliveries from other libraries arrive at the Chemistry Library on a roughly daily basis.
  • The normal delivery usually contains books requested from other libraries (both Penn and non-Penn books), Chemistry book returns, new books, (newly) bound journals, and new current journals. On any given day, any number of each may arrive.
  • All items with barcodes should be “returned” in the Return module of Alma. If the book has no barcode, ASK FOR HELP.
  • Chemistry books should be returned by the standard book return procedure.
  • For all other items, more specific processing directions are outlined in the sections below.

Books from Other Libraries (items for our Hold Shelf)

  • Be sure to scan in all books received from other libraries in the “Return Items” module in Alma
  • Place books with holds on them on the "hold shelf" (on the small blue truck) with the hold slip in the book.
  • EZBorrow, BorrowDirect and ILL books (books from libraries outside of Penn) will have a paper band around their front covers. Only scan the barcode provided on the paper band, NOT the barcode on the book itself. Make sure the band and book are not separated.

Miscellaneous

  • Give notices or other mail to your supervisor
