Using Franklin Catalog

Specifying a Specific Record Field to Search

To limit your search terms to a specific field (author, title, subject call number, etc.) either:

  1. Select Keyword searches in specific fields such as Title Keyword, or Author Keyword.
  2. Select either the Keyword or Keyword Expert search option and use field codes to limit search words to specific fields (see below).
  3. Click the Advanced Search tab and use the pull-down field menus to specify fields.

Field Codes

Field Codes may be used in both Keyword and Keyword Expert searches. Remember that  Boolean operators can only be used in the Keyword Expert searches.

Example Keyword Expert Search: title:cathedral and author:carver

Put searches of more than one word within parenthesis, otherwise the first word is searched in the specified field and the second word is searched in the full database. Put phrases in quotations marks.
