Remote Access to Library Resources: Browzine

What is Browzine?

The BrowZine interface allows you to browse, read and follow thousands of the library’s scholarly journals available at browzine.com or from your Android and iOS mobile devices. Built to compliment your searching needs, BrowZine provides a great mechanism to keep track of your favorite journals and to learn about the new developments in your field. It also can allow you to easily see similar titles to the ones you are familiar with in order to broaden your knowledge of related scholarly literature.  Please note, not all Library subscribed journals are accessible via BrowZine.

With BrowZine, you can:

  • Browse and read journals: Browse journals by subject, easily review tables of contents, and download full articles.
  • Use the durable linking capability of browzine.com to easily link to specific “shelves” within BrowZine Web.

In the mobile app, you can create a personal experience as well:

  • Create your own bookshelf: Add journals to your personal bookshelf and be notified when new articles are published.
  • Save and export articles: Save articles for off-line reading or export to services such as DropBox, Mendeley, RefWorks, Zotero, Papers and more.

Browzine available from your Desktop

Browzine has developed a Web version of their popular interface.  Access by pointing your browser to http://browzine.com.

  • If accessing on-campus, you will be recognized as a member of the University of Pennsylvania.
  • If accessing off-campus, you will prompted to "Choose My Library".  Select the University of Pennsylvania from the list provided.  You will be asked to authenticate using your PennKey.  You will then have full access to the journals provided through Browzine.

You may access a journal using the search box or by browsing the subject catagories that display on the left.  When the appropriate title icon appears, click to see the most recent issues Table of Contents.

Browzine Available from your Mobile Device

Download and install the BrowZine app on your tablet or smartphone device:

Configuring – Once the app has been installed on your device you will be asked to Choose a Library to authenticate your access using a PennKey.

After the authentication process, BrowZine will take several minutes “Building your BrowZine bookshelf”. Please be patient. You may also be prompted to enter your email to create a BrowZine account. The program will send an email message asking you to confirm. Once confirmed, you can begin using BrowZine on your device.
