The David B. Weigle Information Commons opened its doors in April 2006. Located on the first floor (west) of the Van Pelt Dietrich Library Center, the Commons supports collaborative learning and group activities using the latest technologies. The Commons hosts student assistance services from our Program Partners.
The Commons includes a variety of collaboration spaces including Group Study Rooms, Data Diner Booths, Alcove Meeting Areas, Seminar Room and the Vitale Digital Media Lab. Read more about our various supporters and general policies.
One of our largest labs, the Weigle information commons provides the Penn community with access to Mac and Windows desktops and laptops in a dynamically and technically diverse lab environment.
Many computers are available throughout the Van Pelt Library. All computers provide Internet access to Penn's Digital Library, online catalog, and electronic resources. Aside from a few workstations on the first floor and in the stack areas, the computers in Van Pelt are available for use by the Penn Community (require PennKey authentication) . See Computer Labs, Laptops and Software in the Libraries for details.

The library uses UniPrint pay-for-printing. To make use of the service, print as you would normally print from your home or office computer, give your job a name, and retrieve your print jobs from one of the two print stations. You will be able to swipe your PennCard/PennCash card, and then will be prompted to find your job by name and work station. Black and white printing costs $.07/page. Duplex and Color printing are also available. Duplex printing costs $ .10 per page for double side black and white pages using the duplex printers. Color printing is available and costs $0.28/page. Departmental users may use departmental photocopy cards, a specialized type of PennCash card.
We also provide a scannx bookscan device that include a flat bed scanner, touch screen, and a sheet feeding system open to the general public.
