Penn Libraries offers many solutions for locating the materials you need.  

Students, undergraduate and graduate students, can check books out until the end of the academic term. Faculty loan periods are one year. Find out all the details on our Loan Policies page.

Research Help

Each subject area has an assigned librarian to assist you with your research. View the Subject Specialist page to get connected with a librarian who can assist you with making the libraries work to support you in fulfilling assignments for almost any course you are taking. 

To schedule an appointment with your librarian, send them an email or visit the Request a Consultation page or stop by the Information Desk in Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center to ask them where to get started. 

Connecting via the Libraries' Proxy Service

When you connect to databases and journals through the libraries records and links, you should be asked to login before going to the site. If you go directly to the database or journal via a Google search or the site's direct URL, this won't happen. The links below will assist you in connecting to resources available to you through your Penn affiliation no matter where you are:

Global Studies

Learn about our Center for Global Collections with collections for Japanese studies, Chinese studies  Korean studies, African studies, Latin American studies, Mongolian studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Russian and East European studies, and South Asian studies. Collections are in representative languages -- visit the 5th floor of Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center.  

Graduate Study Space in Van Pelt

Van Pelt - Dietrich Library Center has a study area with individual carrels dedicated to graduate students. The room is located around the corner from the East Elevator on the 5th Floor--Room 507. Use your Penn ID to access the room. The study center includes a fully equipped Lactation Room (507.2) Accessible to graduate students via PennCard swipe.
